A reading tour of Dalmeny Kirk
This is a reading sequence through the building’s story, not a promise of access or an organised tour.
1. Understand the whole building
Begin with the history introduction. Identify the nave, chancel, apse and later additions in the published description before concentrating on individual details.
2. Look more closely at the entrance
Read the stone carvings notes. Compare the terminology with a clear image from the heritage record. Describe a feature’s position and shape before deciding what it represents.
3. Read the churchyard separately
Use the graveyard guide for inscriptions and the differences between historical accounts. The records of a family or monument need their own evidence; architecture alone cannot supply it.
4. Check practical arrangements
If you plan to visit, use the contact and visiting guide and confirm opening and access directly with the parish. Respect services, private events and the burial ground.
The archived July 2021 Guided Tour page was unfinished. This newly written sequence does not claim to reproduce an old tour, provide a measured route or offer bookings.
